Why is WIZnet used in Smart Metering?

The main difference between existing meters and
smart meters is the lack of network connectivity.
The replacement of existing meters is complex and expensive. However, with WIZnet's embedded network modules, these existing power meters can use the network to transmit data. WIZnet's modules support popular interfaces such as RS-232, 422, or 485. The module directly converts data from the RS-232, 422 or 485 to the Ethernet.

WIZnet also provides customization service to accommodate the different needs of various power meters. With this simple and inexpensive module, the previous generation power meters can be converted into a smart meter.
In Europe, smart metering customers have been using WIZnet modules because the development time is short
and the cost is low.
